A High, Windy Walk with my Bros!
We were spoiled last week walking in temperatures in the 60s and we paid for it today. I had the pleasure of my two biological brothers, John and Brian (as opposed to my brothers from another mother!) making the 6 miles walk from East Kingston to Red Hook. The highlight of today's walk was crossing the Hudson River again, this time across the very high span of the Kingston-Rhinecliffe Bridge. As you'll hear in the video below, the wind was howling as we made our way across the span. Taking photos on the bridge felt like the phone would blow right out of my hand. The beautiful Catskill Mountain range was behind us as we walked East. We are walking what is called an "on-road" stretch for the next 35 miles so its a little loud with the traffic and a little hairy with the tight corners. Lots of history on the placards in the photos and some pretty countryside as we made our way off the main road. Tomorrow we head for the Town of Tivoli. We have raised $18,350 in donations and pledges and I am inspired every day when new people join the cause.
Food today. Food security tomorrow.
In a country that wastes billions of pounds of food each year, it's almost shocking that anyone in America goes hungry. Yet every day, there are millions of children and adults who do not get the meals they need to thrive. We work to get nourishing food – from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers – to people in need. At the same time, we also seek to help the people we serve to build a path to a brighter, food-secure future.
