Welcome to my journey for hunger relief...
Updated: Jan 18
Hi, my name is Jim McCormack and I am walking the Empire State Trail to help Feed America! I hope I can count on your support! Every night, 50 Million Americans go to bed hungry. The recent Coronavirus Epidemic has made the situation worse. I am blessed with good health, a strong pair of legs and the time and resources to allow me to make some difference in the plight of hunger in our great country.
The Feeding America network is our nation's largest hunger-relief organization. Feeding America works to get nourishing food – from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers – to people in need. Please hit the tab above to learn more about Hunger in America and the Feeding America organization.
The Empire State Trail is a thing of beauty. The 750-mile Trail showcases New York’s special places, diverse history, and iconic landscapes. The Trail welcomes bicyclists and walkers of all ages to experience the Empire State’s urban centers, village streets, rural communities, and diverse history, from New York City through the Hudson River Valley, west to Buffalo along the Erie Canal, and north to the Champlain Valley and Adirondacks.
My adventure will start at the bottom of NYC and take me North to Albany. This part of the trail is 200 miles. The journey will be made over many days, travelling anywhere from 6 to 10 miles a day. In Albany, I hope to turn west and head to Buffalo, NY. This will add an additional 350 miles to the walk.
Each day, I will update this blog, with a map of the distance and area traveled with pictures and videos of interesting people and places along the way. I am very excited to start the hike. I invite anyone to join me as I journey through New York State. Please go to the Pledge/Donate tab on this blog and make a commitment to help fight hunger in America. You can pledge an amount for each mile I walk or an overall donation amount for the campaign. But please contribute something and spread the word to friends and family to help Feed America. Thank You!
