This was Phebe's Idea!
You can meet our little girl Phebe, a 4 year old Shih-tzu, in the video below. Walking the Empire State Trail was as much her idea as mine! We watched them working for a while on building the section of the trail in Stormville, where we live, when I walked Phebe every day. Then we jumped on the trail, liked it, researched it and here we are 83 miles later! Today I made my way from Pawling to Stormville and got off the trail .3 tenths of a mile from my front door. Along the way, I walked through a severe bend in the trail cut through a rocky mountainside. It gives you an idea of the engineering feat required to build the train lines in the 1800's.. My journey also took me past Green Haven Maximum Security Prison. The view of the prison wall and the guard towers is eerie. And they have a Prison Cemetery too! Talk about your life sentence! Ice is very apparent on the rocky walls of the trail and my faithful DFG bag is walking every mile with me. Tomorrow, on to Hopewell Junction and the Dutchess Rail Trail to Poughkeepsie. We've surpassed $16,000 and I'm hoping we can go higher for Feeding America.
